Cecil Mary LaBarr, 98, died at the Dows Health Care Center on Sunday, January 29. Funeral services were held for Cecil Mary LaBarr on Wednesday, February 1, at Willim Funeral Home in Clarion with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. Charles Kellogg of the United Methodist Church officiated. Gary Brandt was the organist and special music was provided by Frank and Phyllis Tourtelotte. Honorary bearers were Bernard and John Scheppler, Merle Poulson and Joe Hunst. Casket bearers were Roger Wepel, Richard Krein, Dennis Poulson, John Barniskis and Sidney and Chris LaBarr.

Cecil Mary LaBarr was born June 30, 1896, on a farm near Grinnell. She was the daughter of Gilbert and Lena Wurgig Norton. As a child, the family moved to Lincoln Township of Wright County. Cecil received her education at Lincoln #6 school. On August 1, 1918, she and Ralph E. LaBarr were united in marriage at the home of her parents at Galt. Ralph served with the military during World War I. When he returned, they farmed southeast of Clarion and later moved to Galt. In 1964, they moved to Clarion. He died on February 1, 1978. Cecil was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Grace Stockwell Circle. Other memberships included Lincoln Ladies Union, Navy Mothers, VFW Auxiliary and Clarion Senior Citizens. In 1988, she moved to the Dows Health Care Center.

Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters; Lorene Maier of Eagle Grove; Irene Poulson and her husband Gale of Clarion; Emma Wray and her husband Howard of Clarion; one son, Ralph J. and his wife Shirley of Denver, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 7 great great-grandchildren and three sisters, Irene Schau of Farmington; Lucille Swanger of Phoenix, Arizona; and Julie Pepper of Panama, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Lester Norton, a sister, Verna Lovejoy and her daughter, Phyllis Reines.
