James A. Yungclas, Jr., 82, of Grinnell, died on July 15, 2017, at the Mayflower Health Center in Grinnell. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24th at the Mayflower Carmen Center. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Arloene; his children, David Yungclas of West Des Moines and his sons Sam and Jack, Susan Kolbe (Kevin) of Grinnell and their children Emily (Ben) and Elizabeth, Jan Yungclas (Sterling Graham) of Sugarland, TX and her children Matt and Mike, and Cathy Hoyt (Jim) of Missouri Valley and her son Nick. Jim is also survived by his twin sister, Joanna Maricle, of Greenwood Village, CO and many close friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Yungclas.

Jim was born on November 22, 1934, in Webster City, the son of James A. and Eloise (Kershaw) Yungclas. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. On March 5, 1955, Jim was united in marriage to Arloene McGowan at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University. He was further employed by Iowa State, serving for over 23 years as the Dickinson County Extension Director in northwest Iowa.

Jim enjoyed wood and metal working, as well as time spent with his beloved family. He served as a Board Member for the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement and will be remembered for his dedication to various causes affecting Iowans, including water quality and responsible land and agriculture management. Memorial donations in Jim’s honor may be directed to Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement.
