CHARLES MARQUARDT II

Charles Marquardt II, 84, of Grinnell died Thursday, Aug. 5, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Reynolds, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Readers were Sara and Amy Marquardt, and music was provided by organist Margaret Wheeler and soloist Milton Severe. Casket bearers were Tim Hejna, Scott Galbreath, Jamie Marquardt, Larry Erickson, Rick Jones and Tom Hotchkin.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Charles and Myrtle Armstrong Marquardt, he was born Jan. 12, 1915, near Buffalo Lake, Minn. He was a 1934 graduate of Hector High School, Hector, Minn.

He was married to Katherine Suppes, Sept. 10, 1937, in Chatville, Minn. They lived in Hector where he was employed by Brookfield Hybrid Seed Corn. They moved to Grinnell in 1954, and Mr. Marquardt worked as plant manager of Cargill Hybrid Seeds Research. He retired in 1980.

Surviving are his wife; four children, Jeanette Hejna of Chicago, Yvonne Munson of Portage, Mich., Ron Marquardt of Canyon Lake, Calif., and Wayne Marquardt of Mediapolis; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Blanche Prellwitz, Myrtle Schultz and Charlotte Marquardt; and one brother, Lester.
