Bertha M. (Bayles) Chamra, 76, of Newton died on Sunday, July 10, 2011, at her home in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 9:30 until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

BERTHA M. BAYLES was born December 14, 1934. Those left to honor Bertha's memory are her 2 daughters, Julie Schwabe (Myron Morley) of Newton and Wanda (Tom) Jones of Lansing, Illinois; 7 grandchildren, Greg (Jennifer) Jones, Travis Jones, Samantha Montgomery, Caleb Wilson, Moe Morley, Haleigh Morley, and Michael Morley; her 1 great-granddaughter, Jade Montgomery; 4 brothers, Loren Bayles (Lila Steward), Glenn (Sandy) Bayles, Delbert Ray Bayles, and Harvey (Bobbie) Bayles; her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and her 2 dogs, Abbie and Lacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse James and Alice Elizabeth (Smool) Bayles; 2 sons, Christopher Bartlett and Roger Lee Miller; her sister, Lila Bernice Bayles; and sister-in-law, Lois Bayles.

She enjoyed horseback riding, bingo, country western music, fried chicken, cooking, garage sales, thrift shopping, and fishing. She also was an avid animal lover and always owned one or more dogs. Bertha was a member of Trail Riders Clubs and the Pony Express. Memorials to Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society, Skiff Hospice, or to Meals on Wheels may be left at the funeral home.
