The Rev. Cloyd Bishop, 78, of 341 Center Point Dr., Montezuma, died Saturday, Aug. 21, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial was in Green Mountain Cemetery.
He was the son of Henry Cloyd Clay and Reba Mae Fox Bishop and was born Aug. 20, 1921, at Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He was raised and educated in Waupaumeta, Ohio, and attended seminary for 10 years, including Olivett Nazarene College, Columbia Bible College, Morningside College, Garrett Seminary and the University of Dubuque Seminary.
He was married to Rachel Lucile Stretton Dec. 27, 1940, in Lima, Ohio. He was employed briefly by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1942, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served as a minister in several Iowa communities, including Climbing Hill Nazarene Church, Algona Nazarene Church, Doliver-Huntington United Methodist Church, Archer-Baker UMC, Delhi-Delaware UMC, Lime Springs-Chester UMC and the Victor-Guernsey-Ladora-Ohio-Koszta UMC. He also served as a scoutmaster.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, David of Rock Falls, Richard of Ulin, Ill., and Steven of Toledo; two daughters, Judith Mae Holl of Kensington, Minn., and Rosemary Dittmer of Coon Rapids, Minn.; two brothers, Robert of Lima, Ohio, and Loyd of Lafayette, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Susan Elizabeth, in infancy; and a brother, Richard.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
