HELEN JOHNSON

Helen Johnson, 67, of Ooltewah, Tenn., and a native of Grinnell, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, at a Chattanooga, Tenn., hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Jan. 27 at the Broad St. United Methodist Church, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Grissom Funeral Home of Cleveland, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Johnson's name may be made to St. Coletta School, Jefferson, Wis., 53549.

She was the daughter of the late Pete and Edith Staffanou of Grinnell.

She attended Colorado College, received a B.S. degree from Drake University and began her career as an elementary school teacher. After returning to Drake for her master's degree in guidance and counseling, she worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of Iowa until her retirement in 1981.

She was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Cleveland and was a volunteer at the Chattanooga Aquarium, Riverbend Festival, National Folk Festival and Chattanooga PGA golf tournaments. She was also a volunteer docent with the Cleveland Symphony Guild and a member of the Cherokee Garden Club, OE.O., Cleveland Country Club, Hunter Art Museum and Chattanooga Symphony Organization.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Johnson of Ooltewah; one son, Randall of Kingsport, Tenn.; two daughters, Sue Johnson of Jefferson, Wis., and Beth Livingston of Columbia, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
