Peter Staffanou, 82, of 315 Fourth Ave., died Saturday, Oct. 9, at Grinnell General Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born July 15, 1889 at Salenica, Greece, and came to the United States in 1910, first residing at Reading, Pa. In 1914, he came to Grinnell and for 35 years was a well-known business man here, operating a confectionary store known as Candyland.

He was married to Edith L. Arnold Nov. 19, 1924, at Ottumwa. She preceded him in death (Nov. 26,? 1958). Mr. Staffanou was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge and the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Robert G. (Helen) Johnson, of Newton; three grandchildren, Susan, Randy and Beth Johnson; and his brother, Ted Staffanou of Grinnell.

Funeral services for Mr. Staffanou were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Eugene Young officiating. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
