FUNERAL SERVICES
FOR CHARLES BAIRD
HELD DEC. 24

Funeral services for Charles Baird were held at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 24 from the Steffy Funeral Home with Rev. Wilbur Wilcox, assistant pastor of the First Methodist Church of Des Moines, in charge.

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stahl sang the "Old Rugged Cross." They were accompanied by Louis Gorsuch.

Casket bearers were Chester Baird, Roy Baird, Lester Baird, Clarence Jordan, Robert Johnston and Ray Herbrandt.

Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Charles, son of Robert and Mary Baird, was born on a farm three miles north of Montezuma, on September 5, 1909, and passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, on December 22, 1957, at forty-eight years of age.

He attended the local school, graduating from high school with the class of 1928.

On November 29, 1939, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Hansen; to this union three children were born. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm for a year; during this time, he passed the Civil Service examination and was sent to the University of North Dakota, where he studied radar, later he was sent to the East Coast. In 1945 they returned to Des Moines, where he was employed by the Beatrice Food company.

In 1951, the family, as a unit, joined the First Methodist Church in Des Moines.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Richard; two daughters, Mary and Dorothy; one brother, Joe, of Montezuma; other relatives and many friends.
