H.C. PLAMBECK DIES.

It is with regret that we chronicle the death of H.C. Plambeck last night at the city hospital, after a long illness, resulting from heart trouble and Bright's disease.

Mr. Plambeck was born at Fechelsdorf, Province of Holstein, Germany, in the early fifties. He attended the German Military Academy at Potsdam, and while still a boy and a student took part in the Franco-Prussian war. He came to America in 1872 landing in Scott county, Iowa. Here in 1875 he married Miss Anna Fraser. He moved to Victor and here Mrs. Plambeck died in 1889. In the early nineties Mr. Plambeck moved to Grinnell, where he joined Co. K as did his son, Archie Plambeck. Both went south in the Spanish War, Mr. Plambeck being elected lieutenant of the Company, an honor of which he was justly proud. He served for many years as janitor of the South school building and his work was always performed with a neatness and care that marked him as a trustworthy man.

He was the father of seven children, six of whom are living. But one, George, is able to be present at this time. His sickness extended over several months, going to the hospital about three weeks ago, where he died last night.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from the home of his brother-in-law, George M. Fraser, in south Grinnell.

Mr. Plambeck was always proud of his record as a soldier and was well liked by those who knew him well from close association.

The Des Moines Leader: Sergeant Major Plambeck, of the Second regiment was a member of the German army Loire during the Franco-German war, and made an enviable record for himself. His career has been a checkered one, but he is recognized as a thorough soldier now because of his long training. In 1867 he entered the German military school at Berlin and graduated in 1870. On February 16, 1870, he entered the regular army and served throughout the Franco-Prussian war. His section of the army was stationed south of Paris during the time that city was besieged, and it was the duty of his division to keep the French army from the south from going to the help of Paris. He served as second lieutenant during that war. He then left the German army and came to this country. In 1878 he entered the Iowa National Guard under Captain Wilkins. Since that time he has been connected with the guard. His home is at Grinnell, and with his son, Max, he is now a member of Co. K, Second regiment.
