OSKALOOSA--Sgt. Eric David Hansen, 24, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born Saturday, May 19, 1990, in Centerville, the son of Jeff and Leslee Davis Hansen. Eric graduated from the Oskaloosa Senior High School with the class of 2009. Following graduation, Eric enlisted in the Army National Guard and completed boot camp training at Fort Benning, Ga. He then completed MOS training at Fort Lee, Virginia, before returning to Oskaloosa. Eric then attended William Penn University in Oskaloosa. He worked several places including Walmart in Ottumwa, Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa and lastly at Jeldwin Windows and Doors in Grinnell. Eric refereed wrestling for all age groups and did so for the last four years. He loved wrestling, football, hunting, fishing, camping, his family and just being outdoors. He also enjoyed NASCAR. Eric had a great love for physical fitness and maintained a very strict exercise schedule. Eric is survived by his parents: Jeff and Leslee Hansen, of Oskaloosa; a sister, Jana Ranay Hansen, of Oskaloosa; his paternal grandparents: James and Janice Hansen of Montezuma; maternal grandparents: Jack and Betty Davis, of Kellogg; his aunts and uncles: Dale Davis, of Victor, and his daughters, Amber and Melissa, Andrew (and Angela) Davis, of Grinnell, and their kids, Ryan and Heather, Annette (and Jeff) Gritsch, of Brooklyn, Iowa, and their kids, Ashley, Jonathan and Shelby, Jud (and Michele) Hansen, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their kids, Ashley, Kaylin, Karah and Ainsley, Julie (and Dave) Anderson, of Malcom , and their child, Hailey; and several great-aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents: Andrew and Nellie Davis and Zelma and Leslie Harl; Paternal great-grandparents: Hans and Bodie Hansen and LaVaughn and George Wickenkamp. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 21. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 20, after 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made tot he Wounded Warrior Project.
