Ernest L. White, 72, of 919 Pearl St., died Monday evening, Feb. 25, at Grinnell General Hospital, following an extended illness.

The son of Almon A. and Minnie Kennedy White, he was born March 7, 1901, near Kellogg. He received his education in the rural schools of Poweshiek County.

He was married to Pearl Beatty, and she preceded him in death during childbirth. He was married to her sister, Grace Beatty, for 20 years, and she also preceded him in death. In 1952, he was married to Hazel Sarver, and they had lived in Grinnell since their marriage.

Mr. White was employed for a number of years at the post office in Gibson, Iowa, and he then returned to Grinnell and was employed for 23 years by Grinnell College. He worked at the Veterans Memorial Building until his retirement 1 1/2 years ago.

Mr. White is survived by his wife, Hazel; a son, Victor White of Grinnell; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Ruth White of Grinnell and Mrs. Joseph (Doris) Anderson of Kellogg; and his seven step-children, Mrs. Geneva Koinisto, Burton Sarver, Mrs. Gynell Holmbury, Ernest L. Sarver, Lyle Sarver, Dale Sarver, and Mrs. Hellyn Staza, all of Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; an infant son; a sister, Hazel Doonan; and two brothers, Raymond and Richard White.

Funeral services for Mr. White were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Morris Hay of Kellogg officiating. Vocalist was Ruth Ann Dayton, and organist was Julia Pearce. Pallbearers were Virgil Case, Ray Hartzel, Francis Arment, Jim Miller, John Hotchkin and Arnold Hagen.

Burial was in the Lower Blue Point Cemetery.
