Donna Marie Melcher, 88, of Shawnee, Kan., died Dec. 9, 2013, in Naples, Fla., where she was a winter resident. Formerly of Cedar Rapids, she has been a resident of Shawnee for the past five years.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Grinnell Christian Church, 1331 Hobart St. Burial will be held in Iowa at a later date.

She was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Burlington, Iowa, a daughter of the late Dan and Henrietta Steingraeber Dustman. She was a graduate of Sperry High School and attended Burlington Junior College.
She married Arden E. Melcher on Aug. 29, 1943. She was a dental assistant for many years before retiring in 1975.
She is survived by her sons, Dana Melcher and Bill Melcher; daughter, Janet Fawkes; sisters, Martha Kent and Laura Speidel; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arden E. Melcher in 2006; her sister, Marian Dustman; and her brother, Fred Dustman.
