Michael S. Holmes, 73, of Cleveland, Tenn. and formerly of Grinnell, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, at his home in Cleveland.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 8, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson officiating.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.

Michael was born on March 28, 1942, in Grinnell to John and Mildred Sarsfield Holmes. He was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools.

He married Patricia Scott on July 17, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple lived in California, Grinnell and Prescott, Ariz. Prior to his retirement, he was a plant manager for a rubber plumbing goods company. After their retirement they moved to Cleveland, Tenn.

Michael enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, hiking and swimming in the ocean.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Holmes of Cleveland, Tenn.; four daughters, Susan, Sharon, Kim and Lucinda; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, William Michael Holmes and John Michael Holmes; and two brothers, Robert Cleland Holmes and John Orville Holmes.
