SIMON TORRES

Simon Torres, 92, of Grinnell died on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. William Reynolds, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell, officiating.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Simon Torres was born on Oct. 28, 1911 in Moerlia, Mexico, to Jose and Adeal Aveail Torres. The family moved to Grinnell in 1914 and he attended Grinnell schools.

Following his education, he returned to Mexico, later coming back to the United States to work in concrete construction in California, Texas and Iowa. He worked for Latcham and Brown Construction Co. in Grinnell for several years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell and he enjoyed raising cats.

He is survived by his close friends, Allen and Sheila Latcham, and their family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sara Chavez; and two brothers, Tony and Eugenio Torres.
