RITES HELD FOR
MRS. DEMPSTER

Mrs. Floy Lain Dempster, 85, of 207 Fifth Ave., Grinnell, the widow of Roscoe Dempster, died suddenly Sunday afternoon (June 24) at St. Francis Manor.

The daughter of H.B. and Ella Wheeler Lain, she as born Aug. 23, 1887, in Altoona. In 1888, her family moved to Grinnell. She attended the Grinnell public schools and later studied music at Grinnell College.

On March 19, 1913, she was married to Roscoe Dempster, and the couple farmed north of Grinnell. In 1926 they moved to Grinnell to make their home. Mr. Dempster died Nov. 2, 1945.

Mrs. Dempster was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and had been treasurer of the former Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church for several years. She had been associated with the former Community Hospital as dietician.

Survivors include two nieces, Mrs. John (Wilma) Dahl of Ely, Minn., and Mrs. Harold B. (Lois) Gordon of Toluca, Calif., and several cousins and nephews including Gaylord and Keith Dempster of Grinnell.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dempster were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John W. McCallum, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Miss Susan Heffner, vocalist.

Pallbearers were I.K. Brown, Gaylord Dempster,, Keith Dempster, Eldon Olds, Warner Renaud, and Thomas Sanders.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Dempster's name may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church.
