LOUIS E. MAXFIELD

Louis E. Maxfield was born on June 29, 1882, in Sheridan, Iowa, and died at the University hospital, in Iowa City on January 20, 1944, at the age of 61 years.

He has lived most of his life in Malcom. He was graduated from the Malcom high school. He is also a graduate of the Palmer School.

On February 17, 1942, he was united in marriage to Juanita Ford, of Malcom.

He was cashier of the Malcom Savings Bank for several years. He has always taken an active interest in civic affairs in Malcom, and has been a member of the school board and town council. He has been postmaster of Malcom for the last eight years. But his many and outstanding services to the community cannot be measured by these few facts alone. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served as Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Shrine.

Mr. Maxfield is survived by his wife, Juanita, and his brother, Dr. George W. Maxfield, of Washington, D.C.

Mr. Maxfield's passing is a real loss to the whole community of Malcom, for he was one of those rare souls who was a friend to everybody.

The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church of Malcom, January 23, 1944, at 2:30. Mr. A. Edwin Harper, Jr., was in charge of the services at the church, and the Masonic lodge at the cemetery. M.A. Brewer, Dr. L. Woods, G. Eisle, H. Harmon, L. Schneckloth, and the Hon. H. Wichman served as pall bearers.
