LAST SERVICES FOR
MRS. E.H. BUMP
THIS AFTERNOON

Mary Jane Patrick was born on Feb. 9, 1857, at Fort Brewerton, N.Y., the daughter of Andrew and Gertrude Spire Patrick, and passed into eternal life on Oct. 31, 1944, at Mt. Pleasant. Her family came to Iowa and settled in Chester township when she was a small girl. When she was fourteen years old her father bought a farm in Rock Creek township, and they lived there for eight years. Their nearest neighbors were the Bump family, who had come there from Wisconsin in 1862,

On December 6, 1877, Mary Jane and Everett Hale Bump were married in the home of the bride's parents. They celebrated their golden anniversary seventeen years ago. Five children were born to them, Ernest of Newton, Mrs. Bessie Ivins of St. Louis, Floyd of Waterloo, Wesley of Grinnell, and Mrs. Gertrude Starr, deceased. There are 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

When Mary Jane was twelve years old she accepted the teachings of Christ in the United Brethren church. Over fifty years ago, she and her husband became members of the local Methodist church, and until health failed, she was an earnest and consecrated worker in this church.

Besides her husband and family there are five brothers and one sister living: Byron, A.H., C.N., James and Clyde Patrick, and Mrs. Lulu Harris.

Serving in the armed forces are six grandsons, one great grandson and one grandson-in-law.

The memorial services were being held this afternoon at 4 o'clock, from the Smith Funeral Home, with Rev. C.D. Loose in charge. Burial was in the family lot in Hazelwood.
