ETHEL SCHWARTZ

Ethel M. Schwartz, 79, of Grinnell, formerly of Pella, died of respiratory failure Saturday, April 27, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

No services are planned. Burial will be at a later date at the Boulder City, Nev. cemetery. The body was deeded to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. The Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Dieleman Braam, she was born July 22, 1922, in Pella. She was a 1940 graduate of New Sharon High School.

She was married to Mose Schwartz, and they made their home in Chicago. She was employed as a tour guide for Midwest Motor Coach Co. for 20 years and had traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East. She retired to Boulder City, Nev., in 1992 and returned to Pella in February 2000. She then moved to Friendship Manor.

She was a member of the Ivanhoe Methodist Church in Chicago, where she was active in the music department. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and various study groups. She was a hospital and nursing home volunteer for many years in the Chicago area.

Surviving are two sons, Victor and Raymond Schwartz, both of Berkeley, Calif.; and two sisters, Herma Cowell of West Des Moines and Ruth Halblom of Grinnell.

Her parents, her husband and one sister, Darlene Permar, preceded her in death.

An Ethel M. Schwartz Memorial Fund has been established.
