JEAN V. HENRY

Jean V. Henry, 89 of Brooklyn, died Jan. 10, at the Grinnell Hospital. Services were Jan. 14, at Grace Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Inurnment will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

Jean Viola Smith was born July 31, 1922 in Brooklyn, the daughter of James and Susan Goff Smith. She was graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1941 and continued with her education, receiving her teaching certificate.

Jean was united in marriage to Paul William Henry June 27, 1946. The couple farmed near Guernsey and moved to Brooklyn in 1964. Jean taught school in the Poweshiek country schools and assisted her husband on the farm. Later she was employed as a cook at the BGM schools and was self-employed as a cake decorator and candy and cookie maker. She also was a receptionist at Reida Insurance in Brooklyn for a few years. She enjoyed children and she ran a daycare in her home for awhile.

Jean is survived by her children Jane Cline and husband George of Brooklyn, and Steven Henry (Shelley) of Gilman, four grandchildren, Greg and Seth Cline of Brooklyn, Eric Henry of Marengo and Brittany Henry of Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1993, three brothers, Delbert, Kenneth, and Wayne, and a sister Frances.
