CLARENCE DUININK, 89

Clarence Duinink, 89, of Montezuma, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial was at the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Clarence Dirk Duinink was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Rose Hill, the son of Arnold and Bessie DeKraii Duinink. He had four sisters, and a brother, Alvie, who was killed in a truck-train accident in 1943. Clarence's folks moved to Lynnville where he attended country school. He fought in World War II and served in Germany, Italy and Africa. on Sept. 12, 1953, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Watts of Barnes City at her parents' home. The couple made their home in Montezuma where they raised their son, Marlyn. He worked for a number of years at International Harvester in Montezuma and retired from the Rolscreen Company in Pella. Clarence was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Alvie Duinink.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn; his son, Marlyn (Nickie) Duinink of Montezuma; four sisters, Pearl Felton of Marshalltown, Lucille Bogard of New Sharon, Martha Bogard of Oskaloosa, and Nellie Nelson of Bondurant; a sister-in-law Vema Gilbreaith of Sloan; four grandchildren, Betty (Perry) Hartzell of Breda, Robby Moore of Carroll, Teresa (Chris) Lavender and Sally (Stuart Gardner) Moore, both of Marshalltown; 10 great-grandchildren, Dillon, Matthew, Michael, Ashley, Jeremy, Elisa, Melissa, Karlee, Amanda and Madison. Clarence also was blessed with seven great-great-grandchildren.
