KENNETH KRAMER

Kenneth Kramer, age 85, of Alta, Iowa died Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake with full military rites by the Alta VFW Post #6172. Visitation will take place Friday, July 29, 2016 from 4-8:00 p.m. with a Fourth Degree Honor Guard at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a KC Rosary all at the Funeral Home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Joseph Kramer was born May 27, 1931 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Bernard Sr. and Marie (Ocken) Kramer. Early in his life, Kenneth was baptized and later confirmed at the St. Francis Church in Maple River, Iowa.

Kenneth attended grade school at Maple River and later attended high school in Pocahontas, where he graduated in 1949. He then furthered his education at Elgin Watch Makers School in Elgin, Illinois, where he graduated in 1957.

In September of 1952, Kenneth was drafted into the United States Army to serve his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954.

Kenneth married Marlene Powell on February 3, 1990 in Grinnell, Iowa at the St. Mary's Catholic church.

Kenneth was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus in 1977 and earned Fourth Degree in 1980. Kenneth was also a member of the Alta VFW Post #6172, the Eagles Club in Grinnell, the American Legion, the Alta Golf and Country Club, and was a 50 year member of the Elks Club.

Kenneth enjoyed many other activities and hobbies such as bowling, golf, cards, yard work, and gardening. He especially enjoyed the Brushy Creek Honor Flight. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory: his wife, Marlene Kramer of Alta, Iowa; children: Patrick (Amy) Kramer of Beecher, Illinois; step-daughters: Tracy Johnson of Alta, Iowa, Toni (Kevin) Hammer of Alta, Iowa, Lee (Bradley) Martin of Alta, Iowa; grandchildren: Julia Kramer of Beecher, Illinois, Tyler Kramer of Beecher, Illinois, Michelle Ruby of Alta, Iowa, Jeremiah Ruby of Alta, Iowa, James Martin of Alta, Iowa, Jamie (Fanny) Hammer of Alta, Iowa, Jahde (Kevin) Osborn of Harlan, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Paco Garcia of Alta, Iowa, Diego Garcia of Alta, Iowa, Jaycob Hammer of Alta, Iowa, Andrea Hammer of Alta, Iowa, Miss Charlie Osborn of Harlan, Iowa, Carter Osborn of Harlan, Iowa; brothers: Bob (Mariam) Kramer of Storm Lake, Iowa, John (Sandy) Kramer of Pocahontas, Iowa, Jerry Kramer of Pocahontas, Iowa, Mike (Pauline) Kramer of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters: Ruth Reis of Pocahontas, Iowa, Linda (Dick) Wirges of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Bob (Loren) Kramer of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Fran (Ben) Kramer of Pocahontas, Iowa; his beloved dog, Kaci; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents: Ben and Marie (Ocken) Kramer; brothers: Leon, Vernice, Loren, Eugene, and Ben Kramer; sisters-in-law: Gladys (Leon) Kramer and JoAnn (Ben) Kramer; and brother-in-law, Leonard (Ruth) Reis.
