RITES HELD LAS FRIDAY
FOR MRS. WALTER J. NEELY

Born in Grinnell, Spent
Entire Life in This
Community.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Mrs. Walter J. Neely, 69, at the Methodist church, with the Rev. C.D. Loose in charge. Mrs. Neely had been a member of the Methodist church since childhood.

Kate Bortell Neely was born in Grinnell on Nov. 2, 1871, and lived her entire life in this community. She was married to Walter J. Neely on Feb. 5, 1896, and to them three children were born: Ruth, now Mrs. Earl Rainier of Milwaukee, Wis., Mabel, now Mrs. Duane Raver of Jefferson and Robert Neely of Grinnell.

Mrs. Neely had a keen interest in her community and was active in a number of organizations: the W.S.C.S. of her church, W.C.T.U., Daughters of Union Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary to the Post Office. She also contributed time and energy to such civic and service organizations as the Red Cross--from which she received a special certificate of service and the Community Hospital Auxiliary.

That she found time for so many varied activities was a tribute to her unselfish interest in others, for she was first of all devoted to her home and her family. She died last Wednesday in her home after a lingering illness, through which she suffered bravely and without complaint.

Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Neely is survived by two grandchildren--Duane Raver and Richard Neely; two sisters--Mrs. Glen T. Davis of Morrowville, Kansas and Mrs. Ernest Bump of Monroe; and one brother, Erven Bortell of Grinnell.

Following the funeral Friday, interment took placein the family lot at Hazelwood cemetery. Pall bearers were A.B. Manson, H.J. Gordon, W.G. Squire, N.O. Pilgrim, Martin Eichhorn and C.S. George. Flowers were in the charge of Mrs. Peters, Mrs. h.J. Gordon, Mrs. Charles Hays, and Miss Bess Campbell. Music was provided by Prof. Elias Blum, Mrs. R. Dempster and Mrs. Margery Bouma.
