OLIVE F. PIERSEL, 90

Olive Faulkner Piersel, 90, of Deep River died Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at the Montezuma Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma.

Funeral services were May 23 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. Officiating was Don Ridnour. "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" were the musical selections.

Casket bearers were Dahl Wickham, Michael Hicks, Byron Stephen, Randy Wickham, Jeff Heishman and Alfred Leonard. Burial followed in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.

Olive was born October 10, 1907 in Poweshiek County near Barnes City, the daughter of Eddie Alfred and Anna Electa (Darland) McClure. She attended Barnes City High School.

In 1923, she married Floyd Faulkner. To this union, one daughter was born. They farmed in the New Sharon area. Floyd died in 1973.

On December 17, 1977, she was united in marriage with Loren Piersel in Cedar Rapids. They lived on Loren's farm east of Deep River.

In March 1998, Olive became a resident of the nursing and rehabilitation center.

A homemaker all of her life, she was a member of the Lacey Methodist Church and the 50 Plus Club in Deep River.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Helen Elaine Thompson; seven brothers, Carlisle, Everett, John, George and Leroy and two other brothers in infancy and one sister, Bernice Darland.

She is survived by her husband, Loren of Deep River; a granddaughter and husband, Kathy and Victor Fowler of Dallas; a son-in-law, John Thompson of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Beverly Heishman and husband, Dean of Deep River and Connie Stephen and husband, Terry of Montezuma; seven step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Eva Pentico of Wolfforth, Texas, Glema Stephen of New Sharon, Inez Wickham of Montezuma and Vida Leonard of Blythe, Calif.; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial has been established at the American Diabetes Foundation.
