MARY ROSS

Mary "Marcy" Ross, 77, of Altoona, formerly of Grinnell, died Sunday, July 21, at Cavanaugh House in Des Moines.

The body was cremated, and no memorial service will be held. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, the American Cancer Society or Lime Creek Nature Center in Mason City.

The daughter of Clarence C. and Anna T. West McVay, she was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Oskaloosa. She was raised in Des Moines and was a 1936 graduate of Roosevelt High School there. She worked for the A&P Company in Des Moines for several years.

She was married to John A. Ross May 5, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo. The couple lived in Des Moines, Oskaloosa and Oelwein before moving to Grinnell in 1965. Mrs. Ross was owner/operator of the 63-80 Oil Co. and Malzuma Restaurant near Malcom. She retired to Sun City, Ariz., in 1982, and moved to Altoona July 1 of this year.

She was member and former treasurer of the Riverview Ladies Golf Association in Sun City and a member of the Lime Creek Nature Center in Mason City.

Survivors are one daughter, Cheryl Ross of Mason City; one son, John of Altoona; one brother, Gerald McVay of Sun City West, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
