MRS. J.H. ROSS

Hester A. Roberts was born December 12, 1844, and died at the city hospital in Grinnell, April 7, 1912. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Roberts, long since deceased. Her early life was spent on a farm in Rock Island county, Illinois, and there she was married in 1861 to John H. Ross, formerly of Guysboro, Nova Scotia, with whom she lived her married life of more than fifty years, the last nine years at their home in Grinnell. To this union were born nine children, of whom two sons and four daughters together with the bereaved husband, also two brothers, Monroe and Orrin Roberts of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, survive to mourn her loss. She was 67 years, 3 months and 26 days of age.

She united with the Baptist church at Andalusia, Illinois, about sixteen years ago, and has been a consistent Christian, bearing with patience the long tedious illness that has been her lot to endure.

The surviving children are Mrs. Jane E. Brown and George M. Ross, of Grinnell, Charles M. Ross, of Green Mountain, and Mrs. Julia A. Agy, of Reinbeck, Iowa, Mrs. Mary E. Yearous, of Potosi, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ida L. Shaffer of Owen, Wisconsin. The last named was not present at the funeral. One brother, Monroe Roberts, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, was present. The husband who is sick at the hospital was too ill to attend the private funeral. She was laid to rest in Hazelwood Cemetery.
