Former State Senator Succumbs in Hospital

Eugene Irving Mason, son of Eugene H. and Sarah Manatt Mason, was born May 6,1879, in Poweshiek Co., Ia and passed away at 12:30 Friday morning, Feb 8, 1946 at St. Francis Hospital in Grinnell, after an illness of several months.

"Dan," as he was familiarly known was a graduate of Brooklyn High School and attended Law School at Iowa City. Later he was admitted to the Bar in Oklahoma. He served as a member of the Iowa State Senate, representing the 12th District from 1935 through 1938. For a number of years he had been operating several hundred acres of farm land in Poweshiek Co. On Dec 12, 1910, he was united in marriage to Rae H. Lynch of Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union was born on daughter, Faith, Mrs. Charles J. Santoro of Brooklyn, Iowa.

Besides his daughter he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hope Raffensperger of Victor, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two sisters Mrs. Rufus Abernathy of Roy, New Mexico, and one who died in infancy.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 11 at 10:30 am at the McAninch Funeral Home in Victor with the Rev. E.W.F. Holler of Brooklyn officiating. Miss Thursia Manatt of Brooklyn presided at the piano, playing "The Rosary," The Lord's Praye," and "Nearer My God to Thee." The body was laid to rest beside his wife in the crypt in the mausoleum at Marengo.

Pallbearers were Randolph Roudabush of Brooklyn, Hugh and Edward Mooney of Waverly, Ed Lynch of Kansas City,Missouri, Harry Mullar and Louis Schleselman of Victor.
