LAIRD RITES AT STEFFY FUNERAL HOME

Services for J.C. Laird were conducted by Mr. Dean Lankford Thursday afternoon, Feb. 15, at the Steffy Funeral Home. Music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Dean Lankford.

Casket bearers were Ralph Wells, Lewis Farmer, Harold Bushong, Clifford Braley, Harold Roovaart and Harold Swanson. Interment was at IOOF Cemetery, Victor.

Mr. Laird, 86, died Monday, Feb. 12, at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.

The son of Ellen and Allison Laird, he was born in McCoysville, Pa., on April 29, 1881.

When he was eight years old, his family moved to Morning Sun, Iowa, where his father was a physician. He attended high school there and then became a salesman and traveled all of his active years.

On Oct. 6, 1910, he was united in marriage with Elma Steffy. To this union two children were born. They lived in Des Moines where he was associated with Todd and Craft Company and the Hoxie Fruit Company. After he retired they moved to Branson, Mo. Several months ago they came to Montezuma to make their home.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and Capitol Lodge #110, AF and AM, of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles, and two brothers, John and Allison.

He is survived by his wife; their daughter, Mrs. Harvey Bookout of Seattle, Wash.; their daughter-in-law, Mss. Ruth Laird of Brookings, S.D.; two grandchildren, James and Victoria Laird; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Duncan of Keota and Miss Margaret Laird of Des Moines; and one brother, David Laird of Chicago.
