DWIGHT R. MORGAN

Dwight R. Morgan completed his earthly life at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 17, 1905, at his home in Newburg.

He was born near Evansville, Ind., January 15, 1835, and thus reached the of 70 years, 8 months and 2 days.

With his parents he removed to Connecticut when quite a small boy. At the age of 20 he came to Illinois, locating at Tiskilwa. He removed in 1866 to Newburg where he has since resided. He was married to Lucy Haskell January 1, 1863, at Tiskilwa. To them were born four children, two sons and two daughters who are: Howard E., near Algona, Alice M. Walker of Westminster, B.C., Anna who died at the age of one year, and James H. of Munich, N.D.

Mr. Morgan was with one exception, that of a Mr. Clay, who soon sold out and moved away the oldest resident of Newburg. He came over the trackless prairies in a lumber wagon and while contributing to the development of the country, remained to see them all under successful cultivation, automobiles pass to and fro upon the roads. He has thus in the hardships and privations of pioneer life laid foundations for the ease and better success of those who follow him.

As a man he was interested, although not always in an active way, in those movements which had to do with the improvement of the community. He was honest and upright, a good citizen, and enjoyed the respect of all. It is three years since he gave up his active interest in the farm, and about one year since his failing health brought him much suffering, which he has borne with remarkable fortitude while patiently waiting for the end.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Newburg Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock conducted by Rev. Geo. R. Chambers.

Interment was at the Chester cemetery.
