Obituary - ANDREWS

REUBEN ANDREWS, son of NICHOLAS and MARGARET ANDREWS, was born December 18, 1885,(should be 1855), near Victor, Ia., and passed away at his home on Bow Creek April 18, 1947, at the age of 91 years and four months. He resided in the locality of his birth until 1878, when he came to Kansas and homesteaded eight miles south of Marvin, now Glade, Kans. In 1879 he returned to Grinnell, Ia., where he was united in marriage to LYDIA MORGAN, on December 1, 1879. In the spring of 1880, he returned to his homestead where they reared their family of five children, four sons and one daughter. The daughter died infancy in 1890.
Those who survived to mourn his passing are his faithful and aged wife, the sons, ARCH L. ANDREWS of Glade, CLARENCE A. of Russell Springs, FRED I. , of Speed, - JOSE RUTHERFORD of Kirwin, and SCOTT C. of the home.
Mr. Andrews was a member of the Methodist church of West Rockport and faithfully attended as long as services were held in vicinity. He was a great lover of his home and family. He was deeply interested in the affairs of the community and served as a member of the school board for 40 years. His creed was , " Honesty is the best policy." He was one of a family of eight children, four daughters and four sons including himself, and all the others have preceded him in death. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, a number of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the home on Bow Creek, Monday afternoon, April 2, at 2 O' clock with REV. F. M. MC DONALD in charge and Smith Mortuary directing. MRS. ROSE LYON and BARBARA MILLER sang the funeral hymns. Six of the grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery at Phillipsburg.
