Gary Lee Evans, 66, of Cheyenne, WY. passed away February 16 at United Medical Center due to surgical complications.
Services were conducted at the hospital immediately after death with his whole family and many close friends in attendance by Chaplain Pat.
He was born at home in Deep River on April 24, 1937 to Lois I. and Robert O. Evans.
Gary attended school in Deep River where he played baseball, basketball and enjoyed prompt attendance. He worked for several local business men, Ollie Moore, Jerry Bates, Dean McWilliams and construction with his Dad. During this time he served in the Iowa National Guard, Army Reserves and later enlisted in the Navy.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Moore on August 18, 1956, to this union three children were born; Terry Lee, Kelly Ray and Kristy Ann.
Gary worked in Grinnell, at Amana Refrigeration, ran truck stops in Marengo, Guernsey, Newton, Atlantic, IA., and North Platte, NE where they resided for 23 years before his retirement due to health and then moving to Cheyenne, WY.
Over the years Gary enjoyed his family, pets (Sugar, Snickers and Bell), friends, fishing, hunting and the occasional practical joke (really).
He is survived by his wife Nancy of 47 years, three children: son Terry of Cheyenne; son Kelly and daughter-in-law Cindy of Cheyenne; and daughter Kristy and husband Mike Lozano of Lafayette, CO.; two grandsons, Joshua and Greg Lozano of Lafayette, CO.; four granddaughters, Lisa and husband Jesus Fresquez; Amy Joe Evans; Jessica Pollard and Randi Rae Evans; two great-granddaughters, Alex and Maylena Fresquez; two great-grandsons, Trevor and Nathanyl all of Cheyenne and other relatives and many friends.
Gary’s mother, Lois still lives in Deep River; his brother Ed and his wife Anne and four children; Brent, Katie, Justin (just returned from a year in Iraq) and Sarah (student at ASU, Tempe, AZ) live in Villa Park, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert O. Evans, grandparents JC and Fay Evans and Grandmother Amy Carver.
Gary knew no strangers, just someone he had not talked to yet. In the end he was still giving of his friendship as he was a member of the Donor program.
