DEAN IVAN DUFOE

Dean Ivan Dufoe, 77, of Grinnell died on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Smith Funeral Home from 12 noon until 8 p.m., with family members present from 4 to 8 p.m. His family would like to invite friends and relatives for refreshments at United Methodist Church following visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Poweshiek County Izaak Walton League and sent in care of Smith Funeral Home.

He was born June 5, 1931, to Floyd E. and Katie E. Neirtert Dufoe in Iowa City. He attended and graduated from Buck Creek High School with the class of 1949.

On Oct. 9, 1954, he was united in marriage with Janette Lenox in Coggon. The couple later divorced.

He worked for the City of Grinnell at the Waste Water Treatment Plant and always called in the weather for the city to KGRN. He was a long-time member of the Izaak Walton League.

He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Hawkeye fan. He even broke his foot yelling at the Hawks. He loved fishing, mushroom hunting, picking raspberries and being outdoors. He always had a joke of the day. His greatest love was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his five children, Duane D. Dufoe of Grinnell, Robin Wilson of Genoa, Wis., Dwight Dufoe of Grinnell, Douglas Dufoe of Grinnell and Doran Dufoe of Independence; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Earl Dufoe of Cedar Rapids and one sister, Margaret Ann Shean of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Virginia Peebles and Ione Hemming, and his brothers: Wayne, Glen "Chip", Howard, Doran and his twin Gene.
