LAST RITES SAID
FOR CHRIS CRIDER

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn for Christopher (Chris) Frank Crider, 18, one of three Brooklyn men killed in an automobile accident west of Grinnell on Friday, Aug. 20.

The Rev. Charles Gannon, St. Patrick's parish in Iowa City, a cousin, officiated at the services. He was assisted by the Rev. Patrick McCoy of Brooklyn, Monsignor E.C. Greer of Victor, the Rev. Robert Mann of Davenport, and the Rev. Karl Holtkemp of Fairfield. The latter two are friends of the Crider family.

Pallbearers were Dennis, Steve and Pat Gallagher, John Claeys, Bob King and Mike Stopulous.

Honorary pallbearers were seniors from last year's BGM football team -- John Lippincott, Larry Humphrey, Doug Burke, Dennis Paynter, and William Calderwood; two friends -- John Manatt and Dave McCulla, and three friends from Des Moines -- Charles Gannon, Mike Sommers and Mark Tripp.

The son of Giles and Peggy Frank Crider, Chris Crider was born Sept. 26, 1952, at Dubuque. The family moved to Brooklyn from Des Moines three years ago, and Chris graduated from BGM high school in May.

Chris had been a member of the BGM high school football team and was scheduled to attend Northeast Missouri State College at Kirksville on a football scholarship. During his junior year at BGM, he was one of three unanimous picks for All-South Iowa Cedar League. As a senior he was one of two unanimous choices. He was also an All-State honorable mention pick two years for the Des Moines Register and Tribune. He had been captain of the BGM football team last year.

Chris was also active in St. Patrick's church and served as president of the Catholic Youth Organization. He had been employed during the summer at Manatts, Inc. During high school he had worked weekends at the Star Inn.

Survivors include his parents; two sisters -- Mary and Susan; three brothers -- Peter, Giles F., and Guy; and his grandmothers -- Mrs. Kathryn Crider of Brooklyn and Mrs. Mary Frank, Oxnard, Calif.
