EARL L. REEDY

Earl L. Reedy, 80, of Mukwonago, Wis., formerly of Grinnell, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at his home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with John Epperson, pastor of Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Fraternal rites of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks will be accorded by BPOE Lodge #1266 of Grinnell and veteran's rites will be conducted by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial unit. Pianist will be Pat Saxton. Casket bearers will be Gordon Ashby, Ralph Elliott, Ron Heishman, Andrew Reedy, Greg Reedy and Ronald Reedy. Honorary bearers will be Gordon Felper, Andrew Jones, Verne Jarvela, Gary Wayne Lincoln and Greg Lincoln. Interment will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.

He was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Malcom to Earl and Leona Stensend Reedy. He was raised in Malcom, graduating from Malcom High School with the class of 1947.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, discharged in 1954. He was the recipient of the Domain of the Golden Dragon and the Honorary Order of Arctic Adventurers.

Following military service, he worked as grocery store manager for two years, then began a 35-year career as a postal worker at the United States Post Office in Grinnell.

He was united in marriage with Barbara Faye Lincoln on April 10, 1955, at First Baptist Church in Grinnell. They resided in Grinnell until moving to Mukwonago in 2008.

He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, having been a member for 54 years and serving as P.E.R., secretary and treasurer of the local lodge and vice president of the southern district of the Iowa Elks as well as past D.D.G.E.R. of the national level.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; one son, David Reedy of Ankeny; one daughter, Susan Amero of Mukwonago; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one sister, Carmen Wiebold of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Norman Reedy, and one sister, Patty Reedy.
