OLIE H. THOMPSON, 86

Olie H. Thompson, 86, of Deep River, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005 at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

His funeral service was Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with Pastor Thomas Shumaker of Calvary Lutheran Church in Deep River officiating. Interment was at Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River. Military graveside rites were performed by the members of the Morrison-Schrader Legion Post No. 296 of Deep River. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Greg Baxter, Myron Widmer, John Winegarden, LaVerne Doty, Steve Rauch and John VanDee.

Olie was born on June 5, 1919 at Truman, Minn., he son of Ole and Dora (Jacobs) Thompson. On June 14, 1943, he was united in marriage with Delene McGee at Sweet Water, Texas. They lived in Lansing, Mich. before moving to Deep River. A welder most of his life, Olie last worked at Ideal Manufacturing in Oskaloosa. He was a World War II Army veteran and served overseas in Japan. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and the Morrison-Schrader American Legion Post No. 296, both of Deep River. Olie also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Delene of Deep River; one sister, Dorine Rogers of Tampa, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Dagmar Thompson of Red Wing, Minn., and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Julius, Theodore, Thore, George and Sylvan; and one sister, Olive Hansen.
