MERLIN RICE
SERVICES HELD

Merlin C. Rice, 69, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Grinnell, died Sunday morning at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Norman Rasmussen, pastor of the Grinnell Seventh Day Adventist Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers were Frank Brown, Dennis Fleener, Harold Fleener, Michael Rice, Steven Rice, and Paul Weber. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of General Sheridan and Mary Paulson Rice, he was born Jan. 19, 1907, southeast of Grinnell. He attended the rural school near his home. In June 9f 1939, he was married to Leona Renshaw at Toledo. The couple had one son.

Mr. Rice had been employed by the Maytag Company in Newton until his retirement. He and Mrs. Rice owned and operated the Dixie Inn in Grinnell from 1959 to 1962. They moved to Earlham in 1965, Marshalltown in 1967, and Lincoln in 1971.

Mr. Rice was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was a former member of the Grinnell Eagles Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; his son, Arthur C. Rice of Lincoln; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Dohrn of Keokuk; four brothers, Ross Rice of Marshland, Neb., Floyd and Willis Rice of Des Moines, and Dr. Glen Rice of Boulder, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eugene and John.
