WALTER TERRELL

Walter W. Terrell, 79, of 410 Washington, Ave., Grinnell, died of cancer Friday, April 28, at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by member of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

The son of Walter and Iva Cavness Terrell, he was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Williams. He was raised in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was married to Frances Loney at Chariton in 1937. They lived in Osceola where he worked as a barber. Mrs. Terrell died in 1950.

He was married to Delores L. Cook in 1951 in Illinois. They lived in Davenport for a few years, then moved to Grinnell. Mr. Terrell worked for the Fifth Avenue Barber Shop here. The family moved to Des Moines where he worked as a barber at Veterans Administration Hospital. He retired in 1989 and returned to Grinnell.

Mr. Terrell was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; two sons, Wendell of Eddyville and Clifford of Knoxville; two daughters, Sandra Van Draska of Grinnell and Yvonne Harvey of Duluth, Minn.; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean of Elgin, Ill., and Verl of Knoxville; one sister, Maxine Gravlin of Rockford, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one grandson, one great-grandson, four brothers and two sisters.
