DONNA LEE TIEDEMANN

Donna Lee Tiedemann, 69, of Donna, Texas, and Grinnell died Dec. 1, 2012, at the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Sam Reaves, Jr. of Grinnell officiating. Pallbearers will be Elias Daoud, Andy Davis, Chad and Thaddeus Means, Shane Phipps and Clayton Tiedemann. Honorary bearers will be Georges Daoud, Jack Davis, Jack, John and Rich Phipps and Greg Tiedemann. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery, rural Jasper County.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 Friday evening.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS).

Donna was born May 12, 1943, in Tama, the daughter of Marion and Peg Pagel See. She was raised in Grinnell and received her education in the Grinnell school district.

In 1961, she was united in marriage with Stan Vogel at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, and the couple made their home in Grinnell. After his death in 1962, she married Gean Tiedemann on April 2, 1966, in Newton. They lived at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri while Gean served in the military and later moved to the See family farm near Grinnell. In 1988 they moved to Gilman for a year and then to the Tiedemann Dairy Farm in Sarcoxie, Mo. They returned to Grinnell in 1999 and have wintered in Donna, Texas for many years. While living in Grinnell she was employed at several businesses.

Donna loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, animals and attending the Iowa State Fair. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, solving word puzzles, baking, watching "old" movies and coloring with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, including latch hook and embroidering.

Survivors include her husband, Gean of Donna, Texas; two children, Clayton Tiedemann and Tammy Means of Grinnell; one sister, Jody Phipps; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Marion Vogel, in 2008.
