ELLA HIBBS RITES FRIDAY

Mrs. Ella Y. Hibbs, 84, of 1016 Fifth Ave., Grinnell, died Tuesday afternoon at Friendship Manor.

The daughter of Hayden and Mary Piper Yeager, she was born in Scotland County, Mo., on June 14, 1890. She attended the rural schools near the family farm and later attended Chillicothe Normal College.

After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught near Cincinnati, Iowa, for several years. She later became postmistress of the Cincinnati Post Office, a position she held for 13 years.

She was married to Bert Hibbs at Brighton, Colo., in 1937, and they lived on their ranch near Brighton until his sudden death in 1938. She then moved to Grinnell where she had lived since.

Mrs. Hibbs was a linen supervisor at the college laundry until her retirement in 1960. While in Cincinnati, she was a member of the Methodist church and a past president of Chapter C.I. of the P.E.O.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sophia Adamson of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Laura Patterson and Nellie McCarty Buckley; and two brothers and four sisters who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hibbs will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John W. McCallum, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Cincinnati.
