EVALYN GROSS RITES SATURDAY

Evalyn V. Gross, 89, of 931 Spring St., Grinnell, died of a heart ailment Thursday, Sept. 4, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church of Malcom, with the Rev. Otto A. Zwanziger, pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Harlan, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist was Gordon Van Donselaar. Pallbearers were Philip, Terry, Kent, Sam and Kip Gross, Charles and Gary Downey, and Mike Loftin. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Gross' name may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.

The daughter of Louis Carl and Wilhelmina Schultz Puls, she was born near Malcom on April 5, 1897. She attended rural school.

On Aug. 26, 1913, she was married to Harlan Gross at her parents' home. the couple farmed near Malcom. Mrs. Gross worked as a seamstress. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran and was president of the church's women's society. Following her husband's death in 1959, she moved to Grinnell.

Survivors include three sons, Claire Gross of Rte. 4, Kenneth of Newton and Will J. of Placentia, Calif.; two daughters, Dorothy Downey of Grinnell and Faye Loftin of Grinnell; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan; six brothers, Fred, John, Elmer, Ted, Louis and Charles Puls; and three sisters, Ida Ferguson, Josie Mithelman and Marie Fogel.
