FORMER RESIDENT
DIES NOVEMBER 8

Grinnell friends have recently learned of the death of Arthur G. (Stub) Hammond, November 8 in a hospital in his home town of Oakland, California. He had been hospitalized about three weeks. A stroke followed hardening of the arteries.

The news was relayed to Grinnell last week by Hammond's daughter, Mrs. Wm. Paul of Yorba Linda, California.

The deceased will be remembered by older Grinnellians as a star Grinnell high school and Grinnell College athlete. He graduated from Grinnell College in the class of 1911.

After he finished Grinnell he located in Portland, Oregon, later was in the lumber business in Vancouver, B.C. and Oregon. In 1918 he went to Oakland, California, where he was associated with the Wells Fargo bank, and at his retirement in 1958 was vice-president of the bank. However, he continued as a financial consultant to the bank until just shortly before his death.

Besides his daughter, he is survived by his widow and one brother, Dr. Bruce F. Hammond of Walnut Creek, California. His widow will be remembered as Hazel Wagner.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 10, at a funeral home in Berkeley, California, in charge of Dr. Vere E. Looper, Grinnell College Class of 1915. Burial was in Sunset Mausoleum, Berkeley.
