JOHN C. ANDERTON

John C. Anderton, 60, of Grinnell died Friday, April 25, at his home of cancer.

A memorial for John Charles Anderton will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 2, at Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. E.W. "Duffy" Meads, Grinnell Regional Hospice chaplain, officiating.

The son of Richard Jefferson and Mary Verdie Gaither Anderton, he was born June 4, 1942, in Columbia, Mo. He attended Hickman High School in Columbia and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He began working for GTE in 1970 in Columbia and moved to Grinnell in 1982 to continue working for the firm. He retired in 1993 and started Jala Computer Consultants in Grinnell in 1994. He began working for Iowa Telecom in 1999.

He married Lana Beth Hood on Nov. 24, 1990, in Newton.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Grinnell Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife; two step-children, Scott Starwalt of Freeport, Ill., and Andrew Arthur of Grinnell; a sister, Audrey Petty of Charlotte, N.C.; and a brother, Doug Anderton of Kingdom City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard, Orbrey and Lyle.
