EUGENE HAMMOND

Eugene (Gene) Hammond, 76, of Grinnell died of cancer Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Mayflower Health Center.

The body has been cremated and there will be no service. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date at Rosehill Memorial Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Grinnell and sent to 716 Broad St.

He was born June 15, 1923, in Conrad, the son of Howard and Ethel Hughes Hammond and lived in Marshalltown, Conrad and Grinnell. He farmed and owned grain elevators in Grinnell. He was married Nov. 8, 1942, to Lois Marquis. He was a past member of First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown.

Survivors include his wife, Lois L. Marquis Hammond; one son, Jim Hammond of Claremont, Calif.; one daughter, Pat Jones of Davenport; two sisters, Alta Carmody of Colo and Velta Nelsen of Racine, Wis.; and four grandchildren.
