JOHN V. KRUMM

John V. Krumm, 67, of Grinnell, died of cancer Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at his home.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. E.W. (Duffy) Meads, Grinnell Regional Hospice chaplain, officiating. Organist will be Jean Carnahan. Vocal music will be by Delmar and Jean Sharp. Pallbearers will be Richard Bailey, Jim Buffum, Chuck Burnham, Lloyd Durr, James Owens and Jerry Van Ersvelde. Honorary bearers will be Mary Baumfalk, Russ Burnham, Maynard Durr, Art Grosenbach, Gene Kerbel and Victor Runyan. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery southwest of Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be made to Grinnell Regional Hospice.

The son of Valentine and Esther Vore Krumm, he was born March 11, 1935 in Rome, N.Y. He was raised in New York state, moving to Grinnell as a teenager where he attended Grinnell High School. He was married June 5, 1955, in Grinnell to Carlene Shockley. He farmed in the Grinnell area and had lived on his present farm north of Grinnell since 1971. He also was employed for several years at Van Wechel Motors and Beatty Dodge Garage in Grinnell and also at Maytag in Newton. He retired from farming in 1999.

He was a member of the Grinnell Elks Lodge, Grinnell Eagles Lodge and Oakland Acres Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife Carlene of Grinnell; two sons, John and Paul Krumm, both of Grinnell; two daughters, Wanda Askelson of Decorah and Valerie Hammond of Grinnell; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, David Krumm of Kellogg and Paul Krumm of Kanapolis, Kan. and one sister, Ruth Weaver of Grinnell. His parents and one sister, Mary Poe preceded him in death.
