JULIA PEARCE

Julia Pearce, 95, of Grinnell died Monday, May 8, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Bruce Beuerbach officiating. Organist was Teresa Thompson, and soloist was Shirley Osborne. A private family burial was held at Sully Cemetery.

The daughter of Neal and Cynthia Barendregt DePrenger, she was born Jan. 30, 1905, in Newton. In 1922, she moved with her parents to Sully where she was employed at Kaldenberg's Mercantile store and later at A.C. Boat. She later studied music at Central College.

She was married to Dick Baarda Nov. 17, 1925, and they lived on the Baarda farm until 1936 when they purchased a farm west of Grinnell.

After her husband's death in 1951, she was married to Leonard M. Pearce in 1954. They lived in Sully and later moved to Grinnell. She later moved to Hill Top Manor in Pella. She had been a resident of Friendship Manor since 1996.

Mrs. Pearce was a member of the Sully Community church and Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell where she served as organist.

Surviving are four daughters, Ila Mae Huyser and Lucille Nikkel, both of Grinnell, Karen Langstraat of Indianola and Karma Burman of Plano, Texas; two sons, Bruce Baarda of Sully and Dean Baarda of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Marvene Hillier of Overland Park, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one daughter, Joyce Huizer; three sisters, Nellie Van Sant, Josie Atwood and Hazel Wisgerhof; and one brother, Carl DePrenger.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Calvary Baptist Missions, Grinnell Regional Hospice or East Iowa Bible Camp.
