ROBERT HOLMES

Robert Cleland Holmes, 59, of Des Moines, formerly of Grinnell, died of a heart attack Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Molsberry, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The son of John C. and Mildred M. (Sarsfield) Holmes Wilson, he was born July 16, 1936, in Grinnell. He was a graduate of Grinnell High School and also attended Grinnell College.

He served with the U.S. (branch of service omitted) following the Korean Conflict. He moved to Des Moines in the early 1960s and worked as a chef for Maxies Restaurant for over 20 years.

Surviving are two brothers, John of Artesia, Calif., and Michael of Prescott, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
