RITES HELD FOR MRS. JOHNSON

Nettie H. Johnson, 65, of 627 East St., Grinnell, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander, Wis., where she had been spending the holidays with her son and family.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Marcus E. Reitz officiating. Organist was Margaret Amo. Pallbearers were Clyde Austin, Robert Breiting, Norman Erickson, Howard McDonough, Gordon Abel and Ted Urfer.

Burial was in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery at Swedesburg, with the Rev. Donald Loots, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Muscatine, officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Robert L. and Cecyl Kalsem Hunt Sr., she was born on Feb. 28, 1921, at Woodbine. A graduate of Valley High School in West Des Moines, she received her training as an X-ray laboratory technician in Omaha, Neb. She came to Grinnell in 1940 and was employed at the former Community Hospital here.

On Dec. 23, 1941, she was married to Waldo A. Johnson at Swedesburg. Following her 12-year career at Community Hospital, she was employed at Grinnell Implement and Grinnell College. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she served as the church organist for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Grinnell Chapter of the D.A.R.

Survivors include her son, James Johnson of Rhinelander, Wis.; two grandchildren; and one sister, Isabel Pieper of Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by five infant sons, Paul Robert, Edwin Hunt, Thomas Edward, Richard William and John Andrew; her parents; her husband, Waldo in 1983; and two brothers, John J. and Robert L. Hunt Jr.
