HELEN DUFFUS
DIES AT 77

Helen M. Duffus, 77, the widow of Fred B. Duffus, died Tuesday evening, April 4, at St. Francis Manor.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Helen Duffus will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner.

Burial will be in the Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom.

The Scripture Service will be recited at 8 p.m. on Friday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Born in Chicago on June 12, 1900, she was the daughter of John and Anastasia Mae Ignera Glowcesewski. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Chicago and attended parochial schools there. She married William Urban in Chicago, and the couple had one son, Roman.

After her first husband's death, she married James Hornbeck in Aurora, Ill. He died shortly thereafter in 1947.

After moving to Grinnell, she was employed with the food service at Grinnell College. She married Fred Duffus on Dec. 25, 1948. The couple continued to make their home in Grinnell and did custodial work for several offices in Grinnell. Her husband died in 1969.

She is survived by her son, Roman; her step-children, Mrs. Hazel Foster of Brooklyn, Harold Duffus of Grinnell, and Harry Duffus of Victor; and three sisters, Mrs. Cecilia Jacobs of Chicago, Lucille Wartell of Peoria, Ariz., and Harriett Terry of Sun City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, two infant sisters, a brother, John Glowcesewski, and a sister, Mrs. Frances Salko.
