MELVIN KRIEGEL

A Funeral Mass for Melvin Kriegel, 67, of Route 3, Brooklyn, was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 12, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Mr. Kriegel died late Thursday afternoon, Jan. 8, 1987, in Grinnell General Hospital, Grinnell.

Rev. Fr. Karl Holtkamp, Pastor of St. Patrick's, was the Celebrant. He was assisted by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Vogel. The organist was Mrs. Francis Kriegel. Flower Attendants were Mrs. Grace McKeag and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Griffith. Casket-Bearers were Laverne Kriegel, Mike VanRenterghem, Theodore Kriegel, Jason Means, Chris Moore, and Kelly Willett.

A Rosary Service was held at 7 p.m., Sunday, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn.

MELVIN KRIEGEL

Melvin Eugene Kriegel, son of John and Mary Roth Kriegel, was born in Poweshiek county, July 1, 1919, and died in Grinnell General Hospital, Grinnell, Iowa, Thursday, Jan. 8, 1987, having attained the age f 67 years, 6 months, and 7 days.

Mr. Kriegel was a life-long resident of Poweshiek County. He received his education in a rural school. He engaged in farming, starting east of Malcom. On April 15, 1941, he was united in marriage to Teresa Henle in St. Patrick's Church in Tama.

Mr. Kriegel was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Brooklyn and was a former member of the Catholic Order of Forresters.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa; four sons and their wives, Lyle and Carrine of Evansville, Ind., Anthony and Jane, Joseph and Julie, and Edward, all of Brooklyn; nine daughters and their husbands, Carol and Roger VanRenterghem of Brooklyn, Geraldine and Mark Moore of Belmond, Loretta and James Mowrey of Grinnell, Helen and Joe Henry of Newton, Lorraine and Gene Willett, Annette and Mike Minnaert, Joyce and Elmer Anderson, Marilyn and Bill Plants, and Pauline and Steve Plants, all of Brooklyn; seven brothers, William, Gerald, Lawrence, Glen Joseph and Kenneth of Brooklyn, Jim of Malcom, and Richard of Marengo; four sisters, Mrs. Stella Henle and Gladys, Mrs. John Healey, both of Tama, Marjorie, Mrs. George Henle, of Brooklyn, and Mary Jane, Mrs. Tom Rich of Nashville, Tenn.; 39 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one granddaughter.
