Dorothy C. Blackwood, 76, of Grinnell died Saturday, Aug. 10, at St. Francis Manor.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the rev. Todd Follette, pastor of the First Friends Church, officiating. A private family burial will be at a later date.
She was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Montezuma to Andrew and Estelle Parker Van Gorp. She was raised in Lynnville where she attended school.
She was married to Clarence Blackwood March 19, 1943, and they lived in Eddyville and Ottumwa. Mr. Blackwood died in 1962. She later was married to James McGinn, and the couple lived in Searsboro. She also lived in Arizona and California before moving to Grinnell in 1978.
She worked as a nurse's aide in Grinnell and had lived at St. Francis Manor for the past two years.
She attended the First Friends Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Sparks and Rosemary Blackwood, both of Grinnell; four grandchildren; and one brother, James Van Gorp of Newton.
She was preceded in death by one son, Daniel R. Blackwood; her parents; two grandsons; three brothers, Fred, Robert and Kenneth Van Gorp; and one sister, Almeta Vos.
A memorial fund in her name will be established.
