John George Mason, 81, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Newburg, died Aug. 24, 2006, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif.
He was born July 16, 1925, in Jasper County to George and Martha Mason, the youngest of six children. He graduated from Newburg High School, then joined the United States Army. He was married to Deloris Thieme in 1952. He attended Woodbury College, then became a successful designer of office interiors who owned and operated Austin Office Interiors in San Diego. He was a member of Kiwanis International of Old Town and the American Legion.
He is survived by one son James C. Mason and one daughter Melissa A. Michalski, both of San Diego; two grandchildren and his companion Alice Fleming. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers Earl and Robert and three sisters Ruth, Betty and Marge.
